Job Summary 

NexGen Technologies is seeking a Software Quality Assurance/Test Engineer to support a federal civilian modernization program by ensuring the quality, reliability, and compliance of mission-critical applications. This role is responsible for designing and executing test strategies, developing automated and manual test cases, validating system functionality, and ensuring alignment with federal requirements, security standards, and program objectives. 

 

The Software Quality Assurance/Test Engineer performs advanced, professional work requiring independent judgment in validating complex systems, identifying defects, and ensuring that technical delivery meets contractual and mission outcomes. Experience testing modern digital services, cloud-hosted applications, and AI-enabled components is strongly preferred to support an automation-forward modernization initiative. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as assigned) 

• Develop, maintain, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and automated test scripts across functional, regression, integration, security, and performance testing.  

• Serve as a key QA/Test Engineer for the federal engagement, maintaining effective working relationships with delivery teams, technical leads, and government stakeholders.  

• Validate system functionality against federal requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and compliance standards.  

• Implement automated testing frameworks and integrate quality gates into CI/CD pipelines to ensure consistent, repeatable validation.  

• Identify, document, and track defects; collaborate with developers and product owners to ensure timely resolution.  

• Support federal Assessment & Authorization (ATO/IATO) activities by validating security controls, documenting test evidence, and ensuring traceability to compliance requirements.  

• Conduct performance, load, and scalability testing for cloud-hosted systems, including Azure and Azure Government environments.  

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.  

• Review user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to ensure testability and alignment with federal requirements.  

• Provide QA metrics, dashboards, and status reporting to leadership and government stakeholders.  

• Support release readiness, change management, dependency management, and issue resolution activities.  

• Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, tools, and methodologies.  

• Other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills 

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance or test engineering roles supporting enterprise or federal systems.  

• Demonstrated experience designing and executing test plans for complex, multi-team applications.  

• Hands-on experience with automated testing tools and frameworks (including UAT).  

• Experience testing solutions hosted in Azure, or comparable cloud environments.  

• Experience supporting federal ATO/IATO processes, including security control testing and documentation.  

• Experience supporting federal civilian agencies or regulated environments.  

• Strong understanding of Agile delivery environments running Sprint cadence.  

• Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and communicate technical issues clearly. 

 

Desired Skills 

• Experience testing AI-enabled, machine learning, or data-driven systems.  

• Familiarity with Azure Government or comparable federal cloud environments.  

• Relevant certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, CSQA, or Agile testing credentials. 

 

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related technical field. 

 

Additional Requirements 

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a regulated federal environment.  

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.  

• Must be able to pass background screening prior to employment.  

• U.S. Citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or U.S. work authorization with a minimum of three years of U.S. presence, as required for federal contracts. 

 

Compensation: $45-55/hour 

(The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided and is determined based on job-related factors, including experience, qualifications, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions.)
